Understanding how research peptide purity is verified is essential for any laboratory environment. This page explains the two key quality documents associated with our compounds: HPLC test results and Certificates of Analysis (COA).
What Is HPLC?
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is an analytical chemistry technique used to separate, identify, and quantify the components within a mixture. In the context of peptide research compounds, HPLC is the primary method used to determine purity — that is, what percentage of the sample is the stated compound versus other substances.
A typical HPLC purity test produces a chromatogram: a graph showing peaks that correspond to different components in the sample. The area under each peak is proportional to the quantity of that component. Purity is expressed as a percentage — for example, ≥98% purity means at least 98% of the sample by area is the stated compound.
HPLC is widely regarded as the analytical gold standard for peptide purity verification and is used in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and research laboratory settings globally.
What Is a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a batch-specific quality document issued for a production lot of a compound. It records the key analytical results for that specific batch and provides a traceable record of the compound's verified specifications.
A COA for a research peptide typically includes:
- Compound name and molecular formula
- Batch or lot number
- Analytical method used (e.g. HPLC)
- Purity result (% by HPLC)
- Appearance
- Testing date
- Storage recommendations
How to Request a COA
COAs are available for all compounds supplied by Precision Chain Peptides. To request the COA for your specific batch, please contact us with your order number and the compound name. We will provide the relevant batch documentation.
Why Purity Matters in Research
